Ending notes Internship PR

The End of my MWF Internship

What my internship has really brought to me?

Build up my confidence

Before starting my internship, i did not possess that confident of talking to with people in the organisation. But gradually, i learnt to adjust with them.

Having done a PR plan for Mauritian Wildlife Foundation has build up my confidence to start working on a 'real life Job.

Now, i can write media releases in a very professional way that make the audience understand clearly.

By contacting the media for the World Wildlife Day, now i have the confident to communicate with the media through telephone, mails and face to face.

Develop my PR skills

I have able to develop my oral and written skills by writing media releases, communication plans and PR plans and communicate with people through telephone and emails.

I am more active on blogs and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

Make more friends
I can say at MWF, it was like  home for me. My colleagues and my manager  were like my friends. they were always  there to help and teach me. Working with them was truly a great experience. their keen wit and wisdom have positively impacted me. I am very thankful to them. they did not behave like they are the king in the company.likewise, they treated me like other members in the company with the same respect and dignity.

Develop my skills in the event field

When organizing word wildlife day i got the experience about how actually what steps should we take when organizing a event.
This internship has encouraged me to join the event industry afterwards

WWD outcomes

Outcomes of the event 'World Wildlife day'

The event was held on Saturday 7 March and Sunday 8 March. On Saturday we have got 40 visitors to visit Ile aux Aigrettes and 90 visitors on Sunday.

The purpose of the event was to give opportunity to Mauritian people to discover Ile Aux Aigrettes at a cheap price.

Most of the visitors' feedback was positive but, certain was quite surprising.

Some really like the event by saying that I would want more event like this.

For some people , it was for the first time that they have visited the island. Some have not seen those endemic species before like the Telfair Lizard, Pink Pigeon and some endemic trees.

the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation is satisfy with the outcomes of the event, and we plan to organise another event for the World Environment day.

we are looking forward to several ideas about how and where to organise the upcoming event.

They had really liked the short trip on boat.

My Tasks during the event

Well, for me it was a great experience ever. My tasks was to interact with the visitors to give them information about the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and Ile Aux Aigrettes. i have also promote the adaption pack for the endemic species. i have interview the people about how they have found the event. Some of the feedback are mentioned above.

Pictures taken during the event.

World Wildlife Day

World Wildlife Day Celebration at Ile Aux Aigrettes

Mauritian Wildlife Foundation team is organising the World Wildlife Day at Ile Aux Aigrettes which will be held on March 03-08, 2015. It is organised to raise awareness of the endangered species at Ile Aux Aigrettes.

my contribution for the event was;

  1. Conctact District Council of Grand-Portfor Approval of the event
  2. to search for activities that can be provided for the events
  3. write media release
  4. prepare communication plan
  5. Design Poster
  6. Communicate with Media

experiences during my contributions

1. To have the approval of the location was not an easy task to do. I had to contact the district Council of Grand-Port, Ministry of fishery then after several calls, I have send a fax to the ministry of housing and landing. finally the request for the location has approved

2. I'm very glad that my proposal of the activities had been approved by the manager. my proposal was to do an exhibition about the endemic species at Ile aux Aigrettes, invite volunteer photographers and provide a media tour.

3. I have been writing media release for 2 years and now i got the chance to do a real one that will be publish in the media. I have done 2 media releases and finally the second has been approved by my manager.

4. Preparing the communication plan was an easy task.

5. I have communicated with the media especially Radio Plus and MBC to invite its team to do a quiz contest as from 3 and 8 of March, 2015. The winners will be rewarded with a free ticket to visit Ile Aux Aigrettes on 7 and 8 March, 2015.  also, I have invited them to do a media tour  and media coverage on the spot.

Designing the poster was a terrible nightmare. my proposal of designing the poster was approved but i faced many challenges when designing it, as I am not a graphic designer. Fortunately, my best friend, who is  a graphic designer, has helped me with it. Finally, it turned to be a wonderful poster

Now, I really hope for the event to be a successful.

A new Beginning

My First Internship

To start with, let me tell you know to find an internship was not an easy task as it is going to be my first internship.  Most of the companies had said "sorry we don't take interns". Organisations wants people who have already an experience in the fields. My question is, if companies do not give us the chance to do our first internships, how are we going to have experience?

But fortunately, I was called for an interview at Mauritius Wildlife Foundation and I was selected at once.

MWF is the unique non-governmental organisation(NGO) in Mauritius to be completely concerned with the preservation and conservation of endangered spices of Mauritius. It works in collaboration with Ile Aux Aigrettes. It is located at Vacoas, Mauritius.

A new beginning at Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF)

My tasks at MWF

I was hired by the Fund Raising Manager to be his communicator and to do the Public Relations tasks.

The atmosphere is very pleasant and a good place for working. The staff at MWF are friendly and very helpful. At first I was a bit uncomfortable as it is my first work experience. However, with the help and support of my manager and other team members, I got the confident to talk freely and discuss everything regarding my internship and my tasks and other professional and personal things.

MWF is doing the World Wildlife Day event at Ile Aux Aigrettes on Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8, 2015. My tasks is to research on activities that can be implemented in the event, research about the target audience, and write a message strategy, promote the event via Facebook pages, design posters and leaflets, draft some media releases and newsletters and prepare speeches.

Having those tasks to do, will give me the opportunity to put my Public Relations skills and techniques into practices.
